Anti-wrinkle injections (Botox), at BrightNewMe
Over the last two decades, Botox® has become the world’s most popular cosmetic treatment, and it is easy to see why – it works fantastically well in softening unwanted frown lines.
When patients first come to see me, I invest a great deal of time in getting to know their medical background, and what it is they are looking to achieve. An initial assessment consultation typically takes 30 minutes (sometimes longer), and will include photographic assessment. First and foremost I need to understand what it is that concerns the patient. We will discuss all available treatment options. I then encourage the patient to spend time considering matters discussed, and only return if and when they are ready to proceed – it is very important to us as a clinic that patients arrive at considered decisions, that are right for them.
My approach is very much ‘less is more’, as most of us want to look like fresher versions of ourselves, rather than looking ‘false’ in any way. For a first treatment, I generally take a conservative approach to dosage, as I want patients to retain their full range of expression.
Patients are invited to return two weeks after the first treatment for a thorough comparison of before and after pictures, and complimentary top-up treatment if necessary.
To avoid an ‘overdone’ look I suggest repeat treatment occurs only when the effects of Botox® treatment are wearing off. We then reassess the effects of previous treatment and re-evaluate treatment goals. Again, this includes additional photographic assessment so that we always have a visual record of progress.
Muscle relaxing injections can be used for a variety of concerns, as shown below. One of my particular favourite treatments, on which I undertook published research, is to lift the brow and increase the amount of eyelid showing. In this way, the eyes (which studies show are the natural focal point of the face) are opened and enhanced, and consequently, the whole facial aesthetic is brightened and improved. I was really honoured that my publication regarding this won a coveted medical award in September 2022.
Should you wish to learn more about my personal approach to using Botox®, or how I reassure patients wary of treatment, you may wish to read this page.
Finally, please be aware that at BrightNewMe I only use the original Botox® by Allergan, with its 40-year history of research and proven use behind it, rather than newer, cheaper alternatives.
